getting close now: ulmus

so, ugh….

i wrote out this whole blog and when i pressed ‘save draft’ (so as to then add pictures separately), it failed. ugh. i’m fairly certain that it is somehow my fault. but still. i must moan for just a moment before i can let go of it. both out loud (jake made sympathetic noises) and now typed out.

ok, that’s out of my system. so i am back from germany! whee! in the end, i brought ulmus as my travel project. primarily because i waited too long in making a decision. so in the final time crunch, i went with the closest at hand, and the most ready to travel. it turned out to be a great travel project. interesting, but not requiring too much attention. good for conversation and traveling, easy to pick up and put down.

ulmus progress

i didn’t get to the lace section until the flight home. i was hoping to finish at least one of these skeins in its entirety. i’ve been trying to stash bust recently. anyways, i succeeded in finishing off the fleece artist nova wool (the pale greeny-blue), but it ran out a row early. so i dived into my collection of bits and bobs, the very one i am trying NOT to add to, and found a pale lime green laceweight. when held double, for one row at the end of the shawl, it disappears. huzzah!

ulmus fix it

i cast off at thor last night, so now it’s just awaiting the sewing in of ends and a good blocking. but i’m very pleased with this project. this is not the final word on germany. or my stash busting, for that matter. in fact, i have a veritable backlog of posts that i owe you guys. so i’ll try to get on that action. stat.

Wow, it’s looking beautiful! I really love blue and green together, despite what the rhyme says!

thanks! i really love how it looks, too! even though i’ve known about this project for a long time, and even the yarns that i would use, i was really happily surprised with how well they worked together, and kept pausing to admire their effect.
