little stools. at my grandparents house there are loads of little stools floating around, perfect for throwing your feet up, or grabbing a seat while shuffling through a lower shelf, or tossing your current book or magazine on, or helping short people get to high places, or a wee personal coffee table. when i was a little girl, i loved them. they were the perfect size for me. recently, that love has resurged, and i just don’t understand why i don’t have like a half dozen little old stools to trip over around the house…

also coming up is march! i mentioned briefly at the beginning of this month an interest in trying a photo a day challenge, and i think i’m gonna give it a shot! there’s going to be a little overlap with the end of my 30 for 30, but i think it should work out okay.

i actually found this blazer at one of those block-garage sales, where multiple houses provide stuff. one of the ladies must have been exactly the same size as me, and i found a wealth of basic business-y clothes. i was in college at the time, but i decided it couldn’t hurt to have some professional looking pieces in my wardrobe.

look at my fingernails! they are so sparkly! they look just like the ruby slippers from the wizard of oz! the color is chancer, by butter, and it’s really hard to take an accurate picture of.

as excited as i was to get them, i feel like it’s taken me a couple of tries to figure out what to do with these orange skinnies.

y’all remember that stack o’ sweaters that i found for $1.50 each, right? well, left to right, top then bottom. 1) the stack, obvo. 2) l.l. bean 3) loft (it has buttons on the sleeves!) 4) gant (??? but it’s 100% shetland) 5) gap 6) forever21 (i always feel a little sheepish when i end up thrifting forever21… it’s so cheap to begin with… but what can you do!)

these absolutely fabulous creamy boots that have just the right amount of amazing.

and now i need to stop thrifting for a little while. at least until the 30 for 30 is over, and i can have access to my full wardrobe again.

and for all that this outfit is simple, i really like it. this is the reason i started doing the 30 for 30, and documenting my outfits. so that i could feel like i was making decisions about what i wear instead of just throwing clothes on. and for whatever reason, i feel like this outfit exemplifies that.

halfway done! 15 more outfits until i have access to my whole closet again! looking back, i actually like most of these outfits quite a bit. i thought i had more duds than i actually have. while there’s quite a few simpler outfits, there’s only three that i feel are blah non-repeaters (3, 9, and 11).

i tried and tried and tried to make an outfit with this white skirt based off of my inspiration. i finally succeeded in making an outfit once i realized… i can’t tuck shirts into this skirt, and i can’t belt this skirt. it’s comfortable, and it fits well, but it just hits the wrong area on me. once i started wearing things over it, things went much smoother and i found this outfit.

true story. i also found the awesomest rockingest pair of boots yesterday… and now i want to swap out for a new sweater and a new pair of boots. le sigh. i shall be strong.

one of the things that ate up my weekend was thrifting! hooray! jill and i went to try a thrift store we’d never been to before. can i just say, i’m quite pleased to be getting back into thrifting? i’m not sure why i haven’t been as much the last couple of years, but i like it. i like buying things cheaper, i like that it has way less impact, environmentally and economically. i like all of these things.

jill and i have had good luck about stumbling onto sales every time we go thrifting together. this time, we stumbled into ‘all winter sweaters $1.50 sale’. holy cannoli, dudes. i rifled through EVERY SINGLE sweater, tried not to go too crazy, but didn’t completely succeed.

these are for me. the only questionable one in the bunch is mr. pink up there. but the cardigan fits me well, so i’ll wear it a few times before i decide how to feel about its pinkness. and if i don’t end up liking it the way it is? i have a feeling a bath in some grey dye might fix it up. i’m tempted to swap out one of the items i haven’t worn for the 30 for 30 yet with one of these, but i’m almost half way through, and there’s nothing wrong with any of my 30 for 30 picks, so… i guess i’ll try to tough it out.

i have at least three previously thrifted sweaters hanging around the house waiting to be unraveled for yarn, so i tried to be very selective about those sweaters that i bought for that specific purpose, but…

i still found a few. plus:

approximately 620 yards of chunky camel colored yarn (90% lambswool, 10% angora) from an outdated and (seemingly) never worn gap sweater that was so enticing i started unraveling it as soon as i got home. i’m daydreaming about a state street cowl, and maybe another gaptastic, but this one would be for my aunt.

i did buy some non-sweater items… but i should save something for thrifty thursday, right?
