knitting it up in a big way

aggh… excuse the photo quality, and the mess. i made jake take pics really quickly, and he was all like ‘are you sure you have something you can work with?’ and i was feeling tired and tummy-squiffly and worried about whether or not i might have caught the PLAGUE that has been making it’s way through my colleagues, so i was like ‘yes!’. and then proceeded to spend the rest of the evening kind of dozing on the couch.

i’m feeling much less squiffly today. hoorah! and i liked this angle, because i don’t think the blog has ever actually gotten to see our illinois school map.

tomorrow is the beginning of this challenge:

i wore two ouftits yesterday, so… i’m counting them both!

i do this frequently (wear multiple outfits in a day), and i get a lot of flack for it. mostly it’s when i get off of work, i change into jeans and a t-shirt for housework and lounging. this isn’t an unusual thing, right? people do this? in this case, the first outfit was not warm enough, so i changed for coziness.

sadly, this outfit doesn’t look as cute as it felt. hate it when that happens! and it definitely wasn’t warm enough, so…

i keep seeing fashion bloggers wearing silk scarves in cute ways, so i grabbed one i saw at a thrift store. i gave it a shot in this outfit, and it took me a while to figure out how to wear it. i tried several different configurations around my neck before i settled on this one. it still felt kind of… voluminous, though, so i put a long necklace on over it to weight it down. i felt a little less weird about it as the evening went on, so i think it’s just one of those things (like belts at the natural waist) that will take a few wears before i don’t feel self-conscious about it.

and here are a few cheerfuls for your tuesday. we saw this a few days ago, and it made me grin:

hi, kitty!

and i departed with $2 to bring a little portable sunshine into the house.

i even used my fancy vase!

business first, fun later, whaddya say?

mlle underbite

a bonus pic, despite obvious underbite, because my ponytail is so charmingly fluffy. now, onto the fun!

my winnings!

i got yarn! specifically, i won it! from ness & john of bunnies and bettas! thanks, guys! dream in color classy, which i looooove, in raspberry blaze (it is slightly more pinky-raspberry than this picture makes it seem, but dang! dark reds are the hardest to photograph!). i’m not sure what it’s destined for yet… any thoughts?

in other fiber-y news, i had a fiber-y guest last night! and with her were many many fiber-y things, which i oohed and ahhed over and petted copiously, but one of them in particular…

her slightly scarf! how prettttttttttty is it?!

not my knitting

look at the fringe! the beads! laceweight, knit up on size 0’s! yowza! those tiny stitches! the miniature stripes! swoon! plus, let us not ignore that friggin’ sweet little owl pin! as she sweetly gave me some copies of her hexi-puff charts, i forsee many little knitted pins in my future!

EDIT: that owl badge has a pattern! it is free! hurray!

(hi, jake’s shadow!)

i finally used one of my inspiration pictures! whoo! technically, i have used them before, but they ended up being more of a jumping off point, rather than a direct influence.

and this marks the 2/3’s point of this 30 for 30. other things that are happening around here? i made a batch of failed cupcakes, followed by a batch of successful cupcakes, plus enough frosting for both batches. i’m not sure how the first batch failed, and it had me very disgruntled.

instead of doing a fave friday like last week, where i showed you various things i currently love, i thought this week i might show you various pictures of one thing i currently love….

little stools. at my grandparents house there are loads of little stools floating around, perfect for throwing your feet up, or grabbing a seat while shuffling through a lower shelf, or tossing your current book or magazine on, or helping short people get to high places, or a wee personal coffee table. when i was a little girl, i loved them. they were the perfect size for me. recently, that love has resurged, and i just don’t understand why i don’t have like a half dozen little old stools to trip over around the house…

how do you feel about little stools?

also coming up is march! i mentioned briefly at the beginning of this month an interest in trying a photo a day challenge, and i think i’m gonna give it a shot! there’s going to be a little overlap with the end of my 30 for 30, but i think it should work out okay.

i actually found this blazer at one of those block-garage sales, where multiple houses provide stuff. one of the ladies must have been exactly the same size as me, and i found a wealth of basic business-y clothes. i was in college at the time, but i decided it couldn’t hurt to have some professional looking pieces in my wardrobe.

my nails feel like ruby slippers!

look at my fingernails! they are so sparkly! they look just like the ruby slippers from the wizard of oz! the color is chancer, by butter, and it’s really hard to take an accurate picture of.

as excited as i was to get them, i feel like it’s taken me a couple of tries to figure out what to do with these orange skinnies.

now, i promised you thrifty finds, did i not?!

thrifted sweaters!

y’all remember that stack o’ sweaters that i found for $1.50 each, right? well, left to right, top then bottom. 1) the stack, obvo. 2) l.l. bean 3) loft (it has buttons on the sleeves!) 4) gant (??? but it’s 100% shetland) 5) gap 6) forever21 (i always feel a little sheepish when i end up thrifting forever21… it’s so cheap to begin with… but what can you do!)

a couple o’ belts. i’m actually wearing the gunmetal one in my outfit!

and! my favorite, found at a different thrift store on a different day:

these absolutely fabulous creamy boots that have just the right amount of amazing.

and now i need to stop thrifting for a little while. at least until the 30 for 30 is over, and i can have access to my full wardrobe again.
