christmas season is in full swing over here! as usual, i am deeply enamored with our christmas tree! for the first time, we managed to get a tree that is small enough for our short ceilinged apartment. usually our tree will be bursting out of the corner it is allocated to. this time, it fits! there’s even room for some presents!

we watched our usual movies while putting the tree together, but we also listened this swedish christmas music. anna has posted it multiple times before, but this is the first year i’ve bothered to download it or listen to it, and i was totally charmed and won over almost immediately.

i made my first cookie press cookies! spritz! the recipe called for a LOT of flour, and they were very difficult to press. after the first three dozen, my forearms couldn’t handle it anymore and i had to bring in jake’s fresh strength to use up the rest of the dough. sheesh! i might try a recipe with less flour next time in the hopes that it’s friendlier to my forearms. they were delicious, though! i find my sweet tooth is the hardest to resist first thing in the morning. a few cookies are so good with the first cup of coffee.

what are your favorite things about the season? any new discoveries sweetening your life?


when i get a new piece of clothing, i want to wear it allll the time. i come up with a dozen different outfits for it. that’s the case with this skirt.


and the blouse, actually.

both are new to me and i looooove them. so it’s the most natural thing in the world that i tried them together. and what did i pair them with? old stand-bys. this cardigan, bought for cheap off the super sale rack at old navy years and years ago, and boots that i have already sung of my love for on the blog. metaphorically. i promise you don’t want to hear me sing. but if we’re ever driving anywhere together, you’ll almost certainly get to hear my enthusiastic* sing alongs.




* that’s pretty much the best thing one could say about my singing.




thrifted ALL OF IT! – but more specifically: swapped thrifted blouse – mudpony vintage shoes

i love it when i have an entirely thrifted outfit! especially an outfit like this. this could be my uniform. i love every part of this: sweet blouse, chunky cardigan, basic palette, some favorite accessories.

i swapped with a friend for this shirt. i had the idea when i was weeding my closet, and i realized i was pretty much over my sleeveless lacey blouse. i remembered a beautiful sleeveless blouse that a friend of mine had, so rather than send the blouse packing, i thought i’d offer up a swap first! she agreed, and now we both have new(/old) blouses! i think this is a fun way to extend your wardrobe.

i love this blouse. i’m not sure i’ve ever documented it before (awww, fail), but i’ve owned it for like eight years. i thrifted it wayyyy back in the day with a few other blouses that did not stand the test of time. but this blouse is one of my favorite saturated blues with just the teensiest bit of green, plaid, a-line, super comfortable and work appropriate. perfect!

i never actually picked 15 items. i just kind of worked my way up to 12 and never expanded from there.

most valuable player- definitely goes to my thrifted cole haan loafers. i wore them for 12 out of the 15 outfits. next highest was my cream skirt, which i wore five times.

most versatile- goes to my j. crew dress, which i wore as a dress, a skirt twice, and a shirt once.

least valuable- (but only in the context of this remix) my floral blouse. i wore it twice. i did think about pairing it with my orange cords but i just never quite got around to it.

i was using this remix to test whether or not the polka dot blouse was gonna stay with me in the long run, and while i find it stylistically fantastic, i’m just not a fan of the fabric, and the way it gaps.

i really like the palette of this remix. a lot of these are my old stand-by’s, colorwise: blue, black, grey, brown, cream, but spiced up with occasional hints of peach, orange & yellow.

2, 4, and 13 are my favorite outfits, but i really liked this whole remix.

this outfit is 100% inspired by jen’s. the moment i saw it, i stored it away for future use. i really like crisp white paired with off white, and i’ve tried it before, but i think this attempt is a little better.


and woot! that’s the 15 outfits. rebecca and ness finished their remixes eons ago. before it was technically summer. but kessa and i have been going at about the same pace!

maybe this shouldn’t be the case by now, but i’m always a little surprised at the versatility of dresses in remixes. maybe it’s because with pants or blouses, i feel like i can only really wear them a couple of ways. but i rarely test the flexibility of a dress until i remix it.

in this remix, this one has been worn as a dress, a skirt (twice), and now a blouse. not too shabby, eh?

when we were in st. louis at the end of may, i got a grilled cheese sandwich at an irish pub for lunch, and it was the most amazing and delicious grilled cheese, with two kinds of cheddar, guinness caramelized onions, and goat cheese! the sharpness of the different cheeses was so good with the sweet onions. so two nights ago i copy-catted (kinda) their idea…

i was too hungry to go find the real camera… and to wait to test it until after i’d taken a picture! i grilled up some onions, slowly over low heat. i didn’t have enough time to properly caramelize them (did i mention the hunger?), and used a sharp white cheddar and goat cheese. NOM! absolutely wonderful. now i’ll have to try it with caramelized onions! and figure out what they mean by the guinness thing. just simmered in guinness, do you reckon?
