can you tell that jake and i are both total suckers for light flares? we always go out of our way to line some up if the sun/angles are willing to accomodate us. but i mean… can you blame us? sun flares are sooo pretty!

target white tee, blazer- thrifted jeans – old navy sandals

you don’t get much more basic of an outfit than jeans and a white t-shirt. it almost feels like cheating, it’s so easy. but i still just love it.

being around this many beautiful flowers made me want to gather up a bunch and bring them home with me! but i have two plants at home i am desperately trying to keep alive. by which i mean i occasionally remember to water them. what do you mean you don’t have high hopes for their survival? i’m shocked! this nursery has a small fruit stand attached to it, and that’s what we were there for.

i feel like everytime we take outfit pictures, my hand veins are going super crazy. sheesh, calm down guys.

i usually announce on the blog when a new episode of PoPS has gone live, and guess what? episode 8 is live! check it out!

also, i posted an outfit selfie on instagram last week, and rebecca and i decided it’s been way too long since our last remix! soooooo: it’s remix time! whoo!

DSC_0048

even though i had the weekend to prepare, i ended up doing some PoPS stuff, biking to the library to get a book, cleaning a little, cooking a bit, and generally doing pretty much whatever i felt like. i thought about the remix a litttle bit, but i didn’t really make decisions or lay out selections or any of that. so i’m approaching this a little differently. i’m going to just wear different outfits until i’ve collected 15 items! and then i’ll remix those! ta-da!

DSC_0049

for points of reference, though, selections broken down along these lines have worked really well for me in the past:

-4 shirts (long & short sleeved, usually at least one blouse)
-3 layering options (cardigan, sweater, blazer)
-3 bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts)
-3 pairs of shoes
-1 dress

i was having a stupid face day when we took these pictures. so i opted out of all pictures that focused on my face. some days i photograph great, and some days when i review the pictures i just wonder what my face was up to and why it couldn’t manage to look normal. silly face.

christmas season is in full swing over here! as usual, i am deeply enamored with our christmas tree! for the first time, we managed to get a tree that is small enough for our short ceilinged apartment. usually our tree will be bursting out of the corner it is allocated to. this time, it fits! there’s even room for some presents!

we watched our usual movies while putting the tree together, but we also listened this swedish christmas music. anna has posted it multiple times before, but this is the first year i’ve bothered to download it or listen to it, and i was totally charmed and won over almost immediately.

i made my first cookie press cookies! spritz! the recipe called for a LOT of flour, and they were very difficult to press. after the first three dozen, my forearms couldn’t handle it anymore and i had to bring in jake’s fresh strength to use up the rest of the dough. sheesh! i might try a recipe with less flour next time in the hopes that it’s friendlier to my forearms. they were delicious, though! i find my sweet tooth is the hardest to resist first thing in the morning. a few cookies are so good with the first cup of coffee.

what are your favorite things about the season? any new discoveries sweetening your life?

thrifted red wool scarf, woven shoes – target thrifted cardigan, white tee – j. crew navy cords

the weather has been so gorgeous. i’m loving watching the earliest signs of autumn, like little tie-dyed leaves showing up sporadically. it’s also nice being able to wear the same outfits inside and outside of work with equal comfort. in the summer, i always have to wear sweaters at work and dress warmly, but as soon as i get off work, i have to peel off layers to stay cool in the heat. and in the winter i have pile on coats and woolens as soon as i leave. it’s pretty magical to be comfortable all day long in the same outfit. #itsthelittlethings

i don’t wear this scarf as much as i should.

gift hat – hand-me-over polka dot blouse – thrifted belt – anthropologie skirt – ebay cole haan loafers

this outfit is 100% inspired by jen’s. the moment i saw it, i stored it away for future use. i really like crisp white paired with off white, and i’ve tried it before, but i think this attempt is a little better.

and woot! that’s the 15 outfits. rebecca and ness finished their remixes eons ago. before it was technically summer. but kessa and i have been going at about the same pace!

gifted hat – thrifted belt, loafers, shirt – canvas cords

two things are for sure: i am having a major hat moment. they are my favorite flourish to add to an outfit. plus they were great in new mexico for keeping that gorgeous amazing bright sun off of my uber-pale skin. love the sun, but skin cancer? not so much.

the other thing: yeah, this shirt didn’t make the cut. sorry, shirt, i like you in theory, but not in reality. the space between the buttons is a little wide, and they keep gapping and framing bits of my torso that i really just prefer to remain covered. i’m not trying for a peek-a-boo game with my belly button, oddly enough. i chose not to show the photos that illustrate this, for what i believe to be self-evident reasons, so just take my word for this. this remix was it’s last shot, because i love the polka dots and the tie neck. alack the day. now i’m in the market for a new polka dot shirt!

are you ready to reeeeeeeeeeeemix? (it helps if you pretend that’s said in a ridiculous announcer voice like it’s the beginning of some kind of match)

i like to use remixes to test run an item i’ve had trouble integrating into my wardrobe. like this skirt, which i owned for five years and rarely/never wore (and only managed to wear once in that remix). post-remix, i handed it over to my cousin, who hopefully gets more use out of it. in this case, it’s this polka dot shirt. in theory, i love it: polka dot blouse with a tie-front. cute, work-appropriate, but a little unexpected and a little vintage-y. i altered the neckline a little to make that more my style, too. but the buttons are a little far apart, so it gaps even though it’s a little roomy on me, and the fabric is very very manmade. nylon? polyester? who knows? so this remix is it’s chance: prove it or lose it!

check out the other lovely ladies who are remixing it up!

after jake gets all of the necessary pictures for me, he likes to grab random snapshots from odd angles, and i usually take that as an invitation to be silly. (classic example) when i look at this picture, i suddenly get ‘all i do is win‘ stuck in my head. so there’s that.

LOOOOOK, i finally got my LOAFERS! aren’t they great? i started my quest over a year ago, and have been looking fairly consistently. when sidewalk ready posted an outfit recently wearing really excellent loafers, i decided that since a year of scanning the shelves of thrift stores hadn’t turned up my ideal pair, it was time to look more aggressively. to ebay! it wasn’t on purpose, but i think i actually got the same exact style of shoes as her. they showed up in my size and the price was right, so…. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, i reckon!

i haven’t made my final selection for the remix, but these shoes are definitely in, and it’s likely that a few of these other pieces might be, too. i’ve been wearing this cardigan like crazy in our cool spring days! i hope you won’t get sick of seeing these pieces over and over again!

in other bloggy news, i have a new FO and some WIPs to share with you. knitting update soooooon! plus, i’d better get up my last post about LA as jake and i did some weekend traveling, and i’d feel silly telling you about that before i’d finished about the last trip!

have you found anything you’ve been long term questing for recently? will you be joining me for the remix?

maybe it’s the recent good weather. perhaps it’s the strong sunlight. maybe because there’s actually daylight after work… but i have a renewed interest in getting dressed. and with it comes the itch to remix.

SO! a week from today, may 15, rebecca and i are undertaking a 15 for 15!

15 for 15, spring 2013

would you be interested in joining us?

the rules are easy! pick 15 pieces*, make 15 outfits!

* pieces include all clothing items and shoes, they exclude accessories such as scarves, belts, jewelry.
